The Town is investigating pedestrian crossing improvements at the East Wheelock & College Street intersection. A recommended concept proposes to eliminate the Eastbound left-turn lane onto College Street and narrow the crossing. The Town will be conducting a pilot to quantify the effects of a lane drop on adjacent intersections and streets.
An additional pilot was conducted on South Main Street temporarily eliminating the Northbound right-turn lane onto Lebanon Street in front of the Post Office, which is proposed as part of potential South Main Street bicycle and sidewalk improvements.
The pilots will end by April 26th. In the event the lane drops are causing unacceptable delays and safety issues as determined by the Police and Public Works Departments, the pilot(s) would be ended early.
