The Town is investigating pedestrian crossing improvements at the East Wheelock & College Street intersection. A recommended concept proposes to eliminate the Eastbound left-turn lane onto College Street and narrow the crossing. The Town will be conducting a pilot to quantify the effects of a lane drop on adjacent intersections and streets.
There will be an additional pilot conducted on South Main Street temporarily eliminating the Northbound right-turn lane onto Lebanon Street in front of the Post Office (you will still be able to turn right), which is proposed as part of potential South Main Street bicycle and sidewalk improvements.
The pilots will be conducted between March 19th and April 26th. In the event the lane drops are causing unacceptable delays and safety issues as determined by the Police and Public Works Departments, the pilot(s) would be ended early.
We welcome your feedback (be kind) in our attempts to balance traffic impacts with improved pedestrian safety. Please use this Google form to provide your feedback on these pilot lane drops.
