Mission
The Department of Public Works provides a wide range of vital community services to the residents we serve including: constructing and maintaining the roads, bridges, intersections, sidewalks and parking lots, managing the Recycling Program, delivering safe drinking water, treating wastewater, maintaining Town buildings, providing engineering design and construction services to Town projects and the Planning and Zoning Departments, maintaining the Town fleet and providing custodial services.
Divisions
The Department of Public Works is comprised of the following divisions:
Confused about who to contact about trees? In general, the Grounds division within the Parks and Recreation department handles trees within the Town's "Urban Compact" (marked within red on this map), and the Highway division within the Public Works department handles trees outside of the Urban Compact. Often times, these divisions will work together and assist each other. If there are electrical lines involved, however, neither division may do anything, and any issues with trees which involve electrical lines MUST be addressed by the appropriate electrical company.

- My street light is out. Who do I report it to?
-
You can report street light outages directly through Liberty's website. You will need the closest address(es) of the affected street light(s).
Residents can also contact the Department of Public Works and they will forward the report to Liberty.
- It’s afternoon and my recycling hasn’t been picked up. What do I do?
-
Did you put it out by 7 am? Did you have everything in the approved container? Check to see if Casella put a "Non Collection Notice Sticker" on it. If there is no sticker, leave it out. Casella has until the end of day to pick up your recycling. Call Casella at 802-295-2660 to report missed pickup at 3 pm.
- Where can I bring my trash?
-
The Town of Hanover uses the Lebanon Solid Waste Facility located on 12A in West Lebanon, NH. Please visit the City of Lebanon's Solid Waste Facility page for information on accessing the facility.
