The Department has many officers with specialized training including:
- Firearms and Defensive Tactics Instructors
- Accident Reconstruction Specialists
- Traffic Enforcement Officers
- Drug Recognition Experts
- Bicycle Patrol Officers
Members of the Detective, Patrol and Communications Divisions also participate in the Regional Special Operations Unit (SOU).
The Police Department handles many urgent situations, including:
- Emergencies (call 911)
- Bomb Threats and Suspicious Packages
- Car Accidents
- Criminal Complaints (prowlers, shoplifters, motor vehicle violations, stalkers, etc.)
- Domestic Disputes and Violence
- Hazardous Road Reports (fallen trees, wires, etc.)
- Missing Person Reports
- Residential and Commercial Burglary Alarms
- Neighbor Disputes
- Medical Emergencies
- DUI and Drug Related Incidents
